First Letters June 1945

First Letters 15" x 16" x 18" Plaster for Bronze 1945 A photo of a child found in the Belsen concentration camp that appeared in the New York Times on June 25, 1945 moved my mother to create the piece she called “First Letters”. Because of the timing - less than two months after Germany surrendered - it may be the first sculpture inspired by the tragedy of the Holocaust. Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, my mother’s alma mater, acquired a bronze version for their library in 2003.
